The lance shaped leaves carry a dense silvery speckling across a deep green base, a natural patterning rather than a variegation mutation, giving each leaf a mottled, almost dusted appearance that varies subtly from one to the next. In its native habitat this species grows as an epiphytic or semi-epiphytic vine, climbing through humid, well shaded forest understory where filtered light and high humidity are constant. The wandering habit is visible even in a young plant, with long, wiry stems reaching out well beyond the main foliage cluster in search of something to climb, a reminder that Hoyas in the wild rarely stay compact. What makes sp. Rangsan a fun one for collectors is that it hasn't yet been pinned down taxonomically, so growing it means holding a small piece of an open botanical question.
