Astrophytum asterias variegated is a rare cactus with a flattened, star-shaped body featuring 8–10 ribs covered in fine white flecking. The deep green body is marked by irregular cream, pale yellow, and sometimes soft pink patches, giving each plant a unique, sculptural appearance. Small, yellow flowers with orange centers emerge from the crown under favorable conditions.
Astrophytum asterias originates from Texas and northeastern Mexico, where it grows in sandy, well-draining soils. The variegated form is a rare mutation preserved in cultivation by collectors. It thrives in bright light with minimal water and extremely well-draining soil, growing slowly while maintaining its distinctive star shape and variegation.
