Philodendron atabapoense is known for its elongated, sword-shaped leaves with contrasting reddish-maroon undersides. This variegated form features erratic splashes and marbling of cream and pale yellow across the upper leaf surface, creating a distinct color contrast against the dark green foliage and burgundy backing. As a climbing species, it develops larger, narrower leaves as it climbs a cedar board or moss pole.
