Alocasia ‘Bat Wing’ Variegated (scientifically Alocasia nycteris ‘Bat Wing’ Variegated) is an extremely rare, high-end collector Alocasia prized for its unmistakable silhouette and dramatic variegation. It gets its name from the distinctive leaf shape, which resembles a bat in flight, with dark green foliage, prominent lobes, and softly undulating margins. Variegation appears as irregular, high-contrast marbling in cream to white, giving each leaf a bold, graphic look. The species name nycteris is derived from a genus of bats, reflecting the plant’s unique form.

Even the standard green Alocasia nycteris is rare in cultivation, making the variegated form a true unicorn among collectors. Native to Panay Island in the Philippines, this species remains more compact than many large Alocasia, with an upright growth habit. It grows best in bright, indirect light with evenly moist, well-draining soil and warm, stable conditions.
