The Small Form Monstera deliciosa Albo Variegated, often called ‘Borsigiana,’ is the most common form of Albo in cultivation and features a vining, vertical growth habit that develops faster than the larger, self-heading form, making it ideal for moss poles and vertical training. With longer internodes and smooth petioles, this small form has a flexible climbing structure and produces bold, sectoral variegation earlier and more consistently than the slower-growing large form. Native to the tropical forests of southern Mexico through Central America, Monstera deliciosa is an epiphyte that climbs trees using aerial roots, while its fenestrations—leaf splits and holes—allow light to reach lower leaves, reduce wind resistance, and channel rainwater toward the roots.
It prefers bright, indirect light and well-draining soil kept evenly moist, thrives in high humidity and consistent warmth, and benefits from a moss pole or trellis to support vertical growth.
