It is known for its striking color contrast between new and mature foliage. New leaves emerge in vivid shades of red to deep burgundy, then gradually harden off to rich green, creating a true bicolor effect across the plant as multiple growth stages are present at once.

The leaves are elongated and smooth with a slightly leathery texture, and the plant has a climbing growth habit. Vertical support encourages larger leaf development and more mature form.
