Alocasia ‘Black Velvet’ Aurea Gold variegated is a rare cultivated Alocasia admired for its velvety, near-black foliage accented with irregular golden-yellow variegation. Selected in cultivation from the dwarf jewel-type Alocasia ‘Black Velvet’, this aurea form retains the compact rosette structure and dramatic contrast of the original while introducing clear gold sectors across the leaf surface. The thick, arrow-shaped leaves have a matte, plush texture with pronounced silvery-white veins that stand out against the dark background. Variegation may appear as splashes, streaks, or large sectoral panels, with expression varying from leaf to leaf. It maintains a tidy, clumping habit from a rhizomatous base and thrives in bright, indirect light, evenly moist but well-draining airy aroid soil, warm temperatures, and elevated humidity to support consistent growth and strong color contrast.
