Alocasia macrorrhiza, in its straight species form, is one of the largest aroids grown as a houseplant, native to the rainforest understory of Southeast Asia and prized in its variegated forms for the same trait that makes the species useful in horticulture: rapid, vigorous growth even in the shifting light beneath a forest canopy. The 'Stingray' cultivar gets its name from the leaf's elongated, whip-like drip tip, which trails off the blade in a way that does genuinely call to mind the tail of the fish it's named for, and the effect is even more pronounced once the plant matures and the tip lengthens further.

This specimen carries heavy albo variegation, with broad cream and white sectors breaking across the green in an irregular, marbled pattern rather than a clean split. No two leaves come out quite the same, which is part of the appeal to collectors chasing a particular expression on this cultivar. It was grown from a corm taken from a single mother plant in Rare Plant Fairy's collection, a propagation method that preserves the variegation pattern reliably compared to seed grown stock.

Rare Plant Fairy grows this plant in a chunky aroid mix of bark and perlite, watering once the top one to two inches of substrate has dried out, which suits the vigorous root growth this species is known for.
