Alocasia sanderiana is an aroid native to the forest understory of Mindanao in the southern Philippines, where it grows low to the ground beneath a closed canopy in warm, humid conditions with dappled, indirect light. The species is easy to recognize even among alocasias for its deeply sinuate, arrow-shaped leaves with wavy, almost fringed margins and pale, silvery venation traced against dark green, a pattern that earned it the common name fern leaf alocasia. It was introduced to Western cultivation in the late nineteenth century through the Sander nursery, whose name it still carries.

This pink variegated form takes that same lobed leaf structure and layers in broad sectors of soft pink and cream alongside the green, so heavily in places that the pink tissue makes up the majority of the blade. Variegation at this extent is uncommon in sanderiana lines and is one of the reasons this cultivar draws attention from collectors who already know the species well. In cultivation, this type is commonly differentiated from Alocasia sanderiana 'Nobilis', which has a more rigid, triangular leaf and a more structured overall appearance by comparison. "Pseudosanderiana" is not a formally recognized botanical name, but it is the term collectors widely use to describe this non-Nobilis sanderiana type, and it is the term most likely to come up when discussing this plant with other growers.

Our plants come from tissue culture as well as from corm divisions taken off our own tissue-cultured mother plant, and we select specifically for strength of color and leaf size rather than for propagation method. This form grows upright and performs best in bright, indirect light, which helps maintain its coloration, paired with evenly moist, well-draining soil and warm, stable conditions with elevated humidity, echoing the shaded, moisture-rich forest floor this species calls home.
