Ficus sp. 'Electrolyte' is a variegated cultivar within one of the plant world's largest and most familiar genera, Ficus, part of the mulberry family, Moraceae. The cultivar name and its origin trace back to Thailand, where it was first selected and named, though the exact species parentage has not been formally confirmed. What sets this plant apart visually is its foliage pattern: rather than the clean white or cream sectoring seen in many variegated aroids, 'Electrolyte' carries an irregular mosaic of deep green set against a bright chartreuse to yellow-green base, giving each leaf its own unique map of color. The glossy, elliptic leaves are a reminder that this is still very much a fig at heart, and that becomes especially clear on mature growth, where small green syconia, the fig genus's characteristic fruit structures, form directly along the stem at the leaf nodes, something most houseplant growers never expect to see indoors.

The plant offered here was propagated by cutting taken directly from Rare Plant Fairy's own mother plant, pictured alongside it, which continues to produce new growth and fruit under our care. We grow 'Electrolyte' in soil, in bright indirect light, and find it adapts readily to typical houseplant conditions once established, making it a comparatively easygoing entry point into variegated Ficus collecting.
