Philodendron ‘Black Cardinal’ is a compact, self-heading hybrid grown for its broad, oval foliage and rich, dramatic coloration. New leaves emerge in deep burgundy to dark cherry tones before gradually darkening to near-black or very deep green, creating a bold, layered appearance as the plant matures. The thick, glossy leaves have a smooth, substantial texture and are held on short stems that give the plant a dense, upright form well suited to indoor growing. Its dark foliage and manageable growth habit make it especially effective as a sculptural accent in smaller spaces or mixed tropical collections, and it performs best in bright, indirect light with evenly moist, well-draining soil, moderate to high humidity, and warm, stable indoor conditions.
