Philodendron ‘Florida Beauty’ is a chimeric variegated cultivar of Philodendron Florida, valued for its deeply lobed, oak-leaf foliage and bold variegation. The leaves have a medium to deep green base with cream to yellow variegation expressed as marbling, splashes, or sectoral patches, with each leaf developing a unique pattern. As the plant matures, leaf size and lobe definition increase, especially when grown on a support.
The original Philodendron Florida hybrid was created in the 1950s by Robert McColley in Orlando, Florida. It is a cross between Philodendron squamiferum, which contributes the hairy, often reddish petioles, and Philodendron pedatum (formerly P. laciniatum), which provides the characteristic deeply lobed leaf shape. ‘Florida Beauty’ retains this classic hybrid structure with the added complexity of variegation and has a vigorous climbing growth habit.
