Philodendron 'Orange Princess Galaxy' is a variegated selection within the Philodendron erubescens hybrid complex, the same lineage responsible for well known cultivars like Philodendron 'Prince of Orange.' The straight erubescens type is native to Colombia, where it grows as a climbing understory epiphyte in warm, humid forest, rooting into leaf litter and bark as it ascends toward filtered light. 'Orange Princess' is known for new leaves that emerge in a deep coppery orange before mellowing toward green with age. The 'Galaxy' designation, an established trade name rather than one coined by Rare Plant Fairy, refers to a variegated line in which speckles and patches of cream, yellow, and green scatter across the orange and green leaf surface in a pattern reminiscent of a star field, which is where the name comes from.

Our plants are propagated by tissue culture, and each division is inspected individually before it is designated part of the Galaxy line, since the speckling can appear in varying density and distribution from one plantlet to the next. We grow ours in a chunky aroid mix of bark and perlite, watering once the top one to two inches of substrate has dried, which suits the plant's epiphytic habit and helps prevent the variegated tissue from sitting in excess moisture.
